Two women of colour embody ‘ panda personas’ in order to explore their exoticized ancestries through the only language they know - that of their colonizers. A satirical piece that seeks to open a rigorous dialogue about the intersection of art, race and popular culture and the unfathomable effect that has on identity as seen through the eyes of the 'Panda diaspora'.
Some Asian Country is an international collaboration between artists Nihaarika Negi and Shakara Carter. The collaboration began in 2017 when Shakara was awarded funding from Arts Council of England's 'Artists International Development Fund' to develop artistic links in India. Since then The Panda Project has received National Lottery Project funding from ACE, along with fantastic support from Eclipse:SLATE and Manchester Royal Exchange to take the concept to R&D, which is currently underway online.
